I apologize, Most Worshipful. Honestly, I just don’t have a budget for everything on the web I enjoy reading. I’ve never had Netflix or those other subscriptions. I don’t even have cable TV. lol

Jay

Brother,

I am sorry if my 'sell' was so hard as to make you feel badly about not purchasing a subscription. I'm aware that not everyone can afford it, and it is much more important to me that Masons read what I write than pay for a sub.

Ultimately, that's why I've never used a paywall to encourage (force) subscriptions. (I have used the paywall tech twice over the years, as I recall, but for reasons of trying to Tyle a highly sensitive discussion, not in an attempt to get more paid subs.)

When I started Emeth, I decided that the best financial model to follow was that of PBS. Hold all the content freely available to everyone, but make occasional requests for financial support of the effort.

The way I figure it, that allows the things I write available to all who might enjoy or benefit from it, while at the same time, provide a mechanism by which those who can financially support the effort, do so.

I hope that is the right balance.

I thank you for reading Emeth, I know that you have had a hugely positive impact on our Craft, and I am honored that you have chosen to spend some of your time here!

Sincerely,

Cameron

Thank you for the chuckle this morning, it was a great way to start my day. On a side note, Hunter Thompson was my wife’s great uncle on her mother’s side.

I'm glad you found a bit of humor in it. That's what I was aiming for, given that I've always figured Black Friday such an odd and tacky thing.

Awesome to know about your wife's connection to Hunter Thompson! I imagine that he would have been an extremely interesting person to know. Probably a bit of a challenge as well, assuming that his writings accurately reflect his personality. Ultimately though, a truly amazing artist of the written word.

My wife’s mother’s family would probably have been considered “second tier” below the likes of Getty and Rockefeller. Her maternal biological grandfather was Hunter Thompson’s bother, then her maternal step-grandfather was Murray Northrop of Northrop Industries. Sadly, trickle down economics hadn’t been invented yet so maybe I should consider writing to supplement my retirement 😎

I don't know Brother, I fear that you might seem far too stable and sane to write in the family tradition! ;-)
