I received the degree in Wash8ngton from th we West Sound Lodge of Past Master. We have a combined association. The degree was important to me in the sense that it was acceptance from the past masters and it also let me meet many past masters who I might not have met otherwise. We also have the district 3 and 12 monthly breakfast where we get together for fellowship, discussion and education. As I now live in Tennessee I greatly miss both of these.

Here in New Hampshire we don't confer the degree, sounds really interesting though.

Out here in the "Wilds" of Eastern Washington, the Past Master's Degree is unknown except to those of us in the York Rite. I am very interested in the degree you described and wonder if there is a formal ritual and where I may obtain it. Several of us here in the Wilds are very interested in pursuing it.

Cheers

We still do the Past Masters Degree in District 8. Seems our evening is quite similar to your area. A great dinner followed by a quick business meeting with elections.

I'm looking forward to being the Senior Deacon this year.

Never heard of this Degree up here in the NW corner of Washington. However when a first time WM is installed we hold a Board of Installed Masters, a BC & Yukon ritual that is only attended by past and sitting Masters. The Canadian brothers insist it is not a Degree. However it is profound and meant as much to me as being installed by then Grand Master Don Munks. You have probably seen this at Victoria-Columbia No. 1ā€™s installations.

I just got back from our annual west sound lodge of past masters. It is an enjoyable event and WB Joe Finnoti does an outstanding job getting all organized. We hold elections after the degree for next years meeting, RWM, SW, JW and Sec/Treasurer. Itā€™s also a progressive line, brothers stepping into the chairs starting with Marshall, then SD, the JW, etc.

The ritual is quite lengthy, especially for the RWM in the east, and it takes some serious dedication to memorize it. It is expected to be done by memory.

Where it originated, I have no idea, next time I see MW Jim Kendall Iā€™ll have to ask.

The lodge that hosts it is rotated amongst the lodges within the three districts (3, 11, 12). This year it was at Hood Canal #288. Lunch was served at high noon and was a nice meal. Degree follows at 1pm. This year we had at least 10 candidates. Great to see so a lot of new faces in their respective oriental chairs. Probably 3 were previous past masters that hadnā€™t received the degree before.

Great time and great fellowship, more districts should adopt this.

Here in Indiana it is a requirement to receive the Past Master's Degree before serving in the East even if you have had the Virtual Past Master's degree in the York Rite. I'm not sure how it's done in Ireland, I'll have to ask.
