The Mason Who Makes A Difference
Never get discouraged
I’ve always believed that we have no cause to get discouraged about the state of Masonry, because one man can make a tremendous difference in a Lodge. I’ve never doubted the fact that a single Mason, pouring his heart and soul into it can’t turn his Lodge around.
In fact, I’ve seen this very thing happen.
Last night this belief was reconfirmed for me.
I attended a stated meeting that happened to be the Official Visit of that area’s District Deputy. A man I greatly admire.
As part of his speech last night, he talked about the fact that a single man can completely change a Lodge. Can turn it for the better.
And he gave a very specific example. Of a Lodge, and a Brother in his District who has done just that.
One of the very first subscribers to Emeth, a man who has been with us since Day 1, a man who is always with us for Rummer & Grapes and who even hosts it when I can not. A Mason I’m honored to call a friend.
The Deputy talked of our Brother, Worshipful Glenn Geiss. About the tremendous positive difference he has made in a Lodge he joined around a year ago. About how the Lodge has energy again, about how it has incorporated Masonic education, about how men are once again excited to come to Lodge.
We can, each of us, make a profound difference in our Lodge.
If we remember that, we won’t get discouraged.
Thanks Most Worshipful. I certainly don’t do what I do for recognition, I do it because I want our fraternity to do better than it has been before. We owe it to the men coming into our fraternity to fulfill the duties we are charged with, and all to often are ignored.
And it is discouraging when the heart and soul you put into it gets tossed away like garbage. It is nice to be recognized that at least some out there appreciate it.
And yes, I consider you a great friend as well. This past year has been much easier because I am with brothers that are at least listening, and this platform is part of that. We all might not agree on everything here, but I’ll sit down with any brother and have a wee dram of scotch or two with them anytime.
We have many brothers in our jurisdiction who are deserving as much recognition as Bro. Glenn. I can always count on Glenn to make the most intelligent comment or thought bubble that gets to the heart of an issue and he is deserving of your treasured confidence. We need more people like Bro. Glenn. (No, he didn't pay me to say this) :)
