Scottish Rite Scholarships
Accepting Applications Now
Do you have a kid, grandkid, niece, nephew, neighbor kid, someone from a Masonic or other youth group, who is pursuing a university degree and needs some financial assistance?
I’d bet that if you think about it, you know someone.
This past weekend we had a meeting of the Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation of Washington, and on November 1 we began accepting applications.
The application window closes on March 31, but the process takes a bit of time, so if you direct a student towards us, you’ll want to let him or her know that they had better begin no later than March 15.
Scholarships are $3000.00 per year
For Washington Residents attending a school accredited within Washington
Full time student, entering their 3rd or 4th year
Maintaining a 3.0 GPA or better
US Citizens
We also offer fellowships at schools throughout Washington and at George Washington University way over in the other Washington.
This year we gave out $354,000.00 dollars.
If you know of a student we could help, please direct them to:
Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation of Washington
If your Lodge gave a student(s) a scholarship in either/or their Freshman or Sophomore year, please direct them to us, as we may be able to help them finish their undergraduate, and even graduate work.
Beyond the Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation, here in Washington our own Washington Masonic Services administers a number of different scholarships. Students should be directed to:
Outside of Washington State, the Scottish Rite SJ offers a number of scholarships. Information about those opportunities can be found on the Supreme Council website:
I’m aware that this post will be of limited value to Masons outside of Washington State. Sorry about that, but I can’t know what scholarship opportunities might be available in other Jurisdictions, or even in the various Lodges of my own Jurisdiction, many of whom operate their own scholarship programs.
I hope that you will let us know in the comments to this post if your Lodge or Jurisdiction has scholarship opportunities available, so that we can share this important information.

I still lament that it is for students who go to school in WA only.
In my first year of Freemasonry I volunteered to replace the Secretary AND Treasurer who after 3 years of seeking replacement said they would Demit. Because these Brothers were not interested and wanted out… the Lodge finances were in a horrible state.
This was in 1995… one thing i started was NOT giving money to Canada Post… I was shown Bcc (Blind carbon copy) and how to send out ALL Lodge missives by e-mail… the Grand Lodge hit the roof! We were about to the GL communication so I went (first year MM and Lodge Secretary/Treasurer with permission to address the Communication…. Here was my point: There were 135 Lodges in the GL and the average size was the same as my Lodge… we were spending (in 1995) about $2,000.00 a year in postage… that multiplied by 135 Lodges worked out to over $250,000.00 per year!… Our Higher Education Bursary Fund gave out about $150.000.00 in bursaries a year which the GL had to struggle with… cutting out the useless “snail mail” would alone more than cover that expense… my proposal and practice was accepted and as they say, “The rest is history!”.
