It builds up the cohesiveness within the Fraternity that turns a group of men into a group of Brothers who pursue one common goal.... and that goal is the Three Tenets of our Beloved Fraternity: Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.

it's very important, it's the social "glue" that keeps us together in a way. How are you going to trust a man you can't laugh with? Sometimes I think that the "cement" referenced in the lesson of the trowel is at least partially fun. So a way to think about it is that the jesters of your lodge who are organizing and executing those fun social events, they're using the trowel, so to speak.

But fun isn't *the point*. Symbolically, you unite the stones into one common mass, or whole -- so that you can have a building and do something with it. You build trust among groups of people so they can be a group and do the work. The work is the point, the fun is part of how we build cohesiveness to get to that point.

Fun? It's a fantastic word. If we can't have and make Fun of or with my Brothers, then how can we cement friendship and Brotherly love? We need to keep our Lodge a destination place, not just a business meeting. Taking yourself too seriously can also push brothers away. 😂

I would say fun is important as an aspect of fratermity but it is not the pupose of participative freemasonry. It is an outcome from the serious business of our making men better. There is also a place for the fun-outside our stated meetings not in them. Inside the lodge the focus should be interest and learning. Fun is before and after ststed meeting and in special events.

Fun and humor are underrated. Both give rise to light-heartedness, which nourishes the human spirit. Even a dog knows that.

I'd like to have fun with anybody at all. Masonic or otherwise. Joining a fraternity should involve some bonding experiences on a regular basis. If there is no fun all the education and charity in the world won't keep people coming.

I agree with many of my Brothers in their replies.....boring business meetings just wont cut it....and awesome charity work may help draw them to our Lodges and masonic education may keep them returning for awhile but if fun with your Brothers isn't mixed in there....it will only last so long....then they will tire & withdraw. Keep it light with the occasional outing to a shooting range, or lunch together....or just sit together while enjoying a cigar & swap stories or pick on that guy that wont eat spam (he does take the ribbing very well)....LOL!!
