I agree. Irrational safetyism is ruining more than just lodge experiences. It's ruining a lot of things.
There are a significant number of people in our society that whittle away at liberty in the name of safety. Whether it's forced wearing of seat belts and helmets or outlawing fireworks and campfires, etc. I believe in liberty with responsibility. You make bad choices that result in bad consequences you take full responsibility for it. No one will bail you out for burning your own house down or crippling yourself for life if you don't follow recommended safety guidelines. But I don't agree with punishment just for violating a safety guideline. The punishment comes on its own when someone experiences a bad result. And as you mentioned the fire extinguisher, there is more than one way to mitigate a risk.
A lot of people don’t like black because they believe it to be an ominous color. For me darkness means safety. I love sleeping in a very dark bedroom. In fact the sheets on our bed are espresso brown. Almost black. Try changing out your sheets to a darker sit and see what happens? And I love sleeping with my big black cat. She purrs next to me and makes me feel secure. Thank you Cameron!
Flame is symbolic of knowledge and divinity. Flame, as an Element, is key to transformation. As we in New York lodges say of charcoal: “When properly ignited, the most obdurate of metals will yield.”
I have heard of, but never have seen, a ritual of the brethren lighting candles from each other. One begins with a lit candle and lights that of the brother next to him, who then lights the candle of the brother next to him, etc., etc.

During a degree especially, lighting should play an important part in the ritual. At the very least, dim the lights during prayers and the obligation.
Every now and then, a local Lodge has a Lantern night, where we just use candles and lanterns. People love it!

Its a great idea that will quickly emerge results. Just do it. I'm pretty sure the fire hazard can be managed. Is it a temple or a board room?
Well we switched to battery operated candles.
Due to the mess that candle wax leaves on carpets and floors.
