MWPGM Bailey, my Florida American Legion Post 166 had a Halloween party Thursday evening Oct 30th. I dressed up as a German Saint Nicholas, complete with a Priest's hat, red robe, white stole, and wooden staff. Many of the American Legion Auxiliary noted "The Pope is here"! Our Post Photographer had a Field day (took about 6 photos). There was ghoulish gravy and sausages, and numerous dark breads, cakes, & cookies for dessert (on a table with a few lit skulls)! I hope you have as much fun?

That sounds like a great party, and an even better costume! Awesome!

I know that this post was a bit of rambling craziness, but I did have a point with it. I believe that if we want our Lodges to succeed, we need to do things like host parties around events and such. These are great ways to build Brotherhood between our Masons, and beyond that they give us good excuses to get out of the house, which is always a good thing!

“The thing is though, it shouldn’t be hard to get a good Witches hat. Hat Bodies (what a hat is before it is made into a hat) are actually cone shaped. So, it should just be a matter of getting a high quality hat body, blocking it to size while leaving the cone, and then defining the brim.”

So in other words, you can obtain a cone-shaped item in your house, then take one of your Stetson hats, steam it up well, then run it on the cone until it forms a nice cone shape. But like you say, you’d better make sure a proper brim is made, otherwise it’ll look like a dunce cap. I don’t think that’s what you want. Also, you’ll want to take several pictures of your hat before you cone-ize it, so that way you can steam it up and return it to its original shape on November first.

Or you could just go with the straight-up cone shape, but to prevent the dunce cap look, you can dress up like Beldar, but you’d need to use a tan Stetson hat to pull it off.

You can thank me later for the excellent ideas I come up with.

Alas, it wouldn't work. When the hat was created from a hat body it was 'blocked' in such a way that set the crown and brim proportions pretty much permanently. (Little adjustments can be made, but not a lot.) So, any normal hat, like a quintessential Stetson just doesn't have enough possible crown height available to be made into a proper witches hat.

One would have to start from the beginning I'm afraid.

But, I will admit to considering if your idea could work, with one of the black Effanem hats. Alas though, just not enough available crown height.

MWB Bailey, this comment leads me to believe you have something brewing…

We look forward to joining the celebrations, honoring those who came before, and considering those to come.

No, nothing brewing.

But...

As a result of this post I learned that the wife of a PGM from another Jurisdiction makes awesome witch hats, so I just might be set!

That is fortuitous! I look forward to seeing it. I may need to consider one fashioned after Gandalfs one day… please me know how it turns out.

Ah, I posted a photo of some that she has done in the Chat. Unfortunately, posting photos in comments still isn't possible here.
