I'm sure you'll make it to the Grandfather Hall of Fame. Parents are about boundaries, Grandparents are about empowerment. And I agree that the perfect adult gift is a nice bottle. Just in case I'm on your list I really like Tanquery ... the original version, not the fruity varieties.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

We are in complete agreement VW! It's the parents job to say no!

I'm also with you on fruity, flavored booze. I hate that stuff, and can't understand why they would want to ruin a good thing.

Merry Christmas Brother!

Yes, the child's instinct is to seek the limit, the parents' duty is to make sure they find it.

You've had me seriously contemplating this for the past two hours!

Don't over-think it. Parents tend to know a little more about circumscribing their passions than kids do. Where else will the kids learn this if their parents don't teach them?

Not overthinking it exactly. But, you've put it in different, better terms than I have in the past.

I always have just considered it spoiling the grandkids, and being a safe place for them to communicate things that they might not be able to communicate to their parents due to the indulgence of said grandparents.

But, I really like your view of empowerment, and I think that is likely a lot closer to what it is.
