One of the most interesting blogs I’ve ever encountered was Slate Star Codex, which some time ago moved to Substack (the platform that hosts Emeth) and was reborn as Astral Codex Ten. This morning, when my regular Astral Codex Ten post arrived via email, it was something new, something unexpected, and something truly great.
It was a Classifieds Thread.
A place where readers could post notices or advertisements about whatever they wanted.
It was so simple, I had to wonder why I hadn’t thought of it before.
Masonic Lodges host great and interesting events all the time. Everything from Past Master’s Nights, to Degrees, to Table Lodges, even unique side Degrees.
One of the troubles has always been advertising these events to the broader Masonic world.
So, here it was in my email this morning. An idea that could help, and that could be easily implemented right here on Emeth.
What does your Lodge have planned over the next month or two? Tell us here.
What cool Masonic thing are you doing? A blog, some Masonic merch, a research project, a new website? Tell us here.
Doing a fundraiser for your Lodge, or charity? Tell us here.
Anything at all related to Masonry that you want to get the word out about? Tell us here.
Whatever it is, this is your chance to advertise and get the word out. Please do take advantage of it.
So tell us, what are you doing…
As I was reading the comments in the Astral Codex Ten Classifieds Thread, I ran across one that I thought to be a true gem. I figured I should share it here:
“Hustling is a pox. Shilling is manipulative. But delivering anticipated messages in the appropriate forum is a gift. Vogue magazine was worth more with the ads than without… A fine experiment.”
As with every Thursday, we will have a Live Open Thread for those with a paid Emeth subscription today. The email opening the thread will go out at 8:00 AM, and I’ll remain on it until 6:00 PM Pacific Time.
We just completed two FCs here at Port Orchard - John Paul Jones Lodge #98. Our next degree will be a EA degree on the 27th of August, at 7pm. Then our next Stated, on the 3rd of September, our very own emeth subscriber Thomas Lamb will be doing a guest presentation on The Landmarks of Freemasonry - a new definition. As we start tackling the backlog of visitors and petitions, our degrees will start to pile up. That's a good problem to have.
Things were extremely busy for me yesterday so I didn't get a chance to post here until now. For those that might be interested I post a weekly 'Masonic Musing,' just a comment or two about something related to my ongoing journey in Freemasonry. Please consider checking it out at https://masonicmusings.substack.com

I wish that I could attend your September Stated to hear W. Lamb's presentation. I imagine that it will be superb!
