This problem is unbelievable and isn’t going away soon. And our government legislatures are doing nothing to control it. It’s just so out of line now. My husband and I have made a rule among ourselves never to answer our phone unless we recognize the person calling. But then they can deep fake a voice and you don’t know if that’s really your brother on the other end. Right? So now we have set up a code for our family and friends when they call.
WhatsApp is actually the worst of all of them! When I tried to boost a post on Facebook it was suggested to me by Facebook to sign up for WhatsApp, I did so and I was almost ripped off about $1500 from some scammer who pretended to be a banker guarding my bank account.
Yeah, it really is terrible, and some of the scams are so convincing!
A young woman I know (who is of an age to have grown up with the internet, so should certainly know the dangers) was recently the victim of a really effective scam and ended up losing significant money before she figured it out.
It’s that old Black Magic talking! I’m not sure if you read this piece of mine where I discuss a very good friend of mine Who is older, but very sharp and careful. She is an expert in finances, believe it or not. I know most people reading her story with them she’s stupid, but believe you me she is the least likely to ever be scammed. That’s what I thought. But no she was scam through these clever techniques they use. She was a ripped off $40,000 with a scammer actually came to her house and picked up the cash. Unbelievably she got her money back because she had the foresight to take a photo of the car and the lady who came to her door. It helped that her family had friends in high places in town who pressured the police to pursue the criminals. The thief was busted. She was a US C student and she had over $2 million in her bank account from this type of activity.

I remember that story. It just goes to show how slick some of these frauds can be.
And so scary, because had she suspected at the wrong time she may have been killed. That’s so serious. 😬
