For a few months in 2023 I worked on a project here on Substack that I called the “Daily Pike.” I’d simply send out a short quote from Brother Pike each day.
I know that it was popular, because the subscriber numbers were quite good.
I stopped doing it, not because people didn’t enjoy receiving the quotes, but because it was too much work to send it out in the format of a Substack newsletter, and because the entire look of it was necessarily redundant. There are only so many photos and paintings of our Brother to be used.
But then, in December, I got the idea to use the Chat function over on Emeth’s sister Substack as a virtual book club. After spending a month doing a deep dive into Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, I learned that the Chat function is perfect for that, and we had some great discussions!
As a quick aside, this month we are doing Frankenstein. I hope you’ll join us, to do so, just click the button below:
Also in December, I had a Brother ask me if The Daily Pike was ever going to come back.
Those things together gave me the idea of converting Emeth’s Chat into a new home for The Daily Pike. It will allow all the good of the old newsletter, with none of the negatives.
Previously I’ve use the Chat area to post Masonic news and happenings, and I think publicizing those kinds of items is important, but I do think that discussions about the philosophy of Freemasonry, using Pikes words as a jumping off point for those discussions is more important, and a better use of Emeth’s resources.
I certainly hope that you’ll join me in Emeth’s Chat, where for the foreseeable future, we’ll be plumbing the depths of Freemasonry!
We will be holding those discussions right here:
If you have a Brother whom you think would enjoy these discussions, please share this post with him. To do so, just click the button below:
Excellent idea! It’s a major disservice to members not ever discussing Masonic philosophy.
