Must Eat Meat
And confer the world's greatest Fellowcraft Degree!
It’s been a month, so I figure that I’d better send a reminder our about our upcoming Emeth BBQ Competition and Outdoor Starlight Fellowcraft Degree! It’s going to be a great event!
Saturday, September 14
Quilcene-Jefferson Lodge
170 Herbert Street, Quilcene WA
If you’ve never been to Quilcene, let me tell you, it’s a wonderful place, on the Olympic Peninsula, South of Port Townsend. And the Temple itself is a wonderful facility, including the huge lawn that we’ll enjoy during the day, and the outdoor Lodge Room where we’ll perform the Degree.
There is more than enough room for everyone to set up, cook, relax, and play. It is a really beautiful location and it offers quite a lot of privacy.
The plan is that we will cook all day, or however long it takes, then judge the food and eat dinner late afternoon through early evening. May the best man, or woman, as the case may be win!
After dinner we’ll wander off into the woods and make a new Fellowcraft Mason or three, under the trees, with the moon and stars lighting the outdoor Lodge room. This is a really neat outdoor Lodge room that is traditionally used for an Entered Apprentice Degree, and the Loggers Degree, but this nighttime Degree should be a really unique experience.
I was asked today about the rules for the competition.
What can I say? We don’t really have any rules. Just bring huge slabs of meat, cook ‘em how you like to cook ‘em, and when everyone has eaten we’ll vote for the winners and award the trophies. Bring some sides too, we award trophies for those as well. Ultimately, I suppose one could game the system, for the more things one throws on the smoker, the more chances he has of a winner!
I should also mention, bring the family, or friends who might be interested in Freemasonry. The BBQ Competition is open to all.
If you want to stay at Quilcene, I’d recommend the Mt. Walker Inn. That’s where I’ll be staying, and I’ve stayed there before. It’s a cool place.
Beyond the Mt. Walker Inn, Port Townsend is just up the road a way, and it has a plethora of lodging options, or if a casino seems like fun, the one at Blyn is quite nice.
Please let me know in the comments if you want to cook in the competition. Everyone is welcome to try and take the trophy! More importantly, to earn the title of the World’s Finest Masonic Pit Master!
But even if you don’t want to cook, be sure and come! We get to eat all these wonderful contest entries!
I look forward to seeing you for this, our third annual competition!

Well MW I remember telling you last year I would have went to your BBQ if it wasn't such a long drive BUT #107 is a short drive and in fact we had a Stated meeting there last night and have a new member to get the vote and I am not a cook but I might be good at being a taste tester
See you there.
