On this Christmas morning I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and yours a very merry Christmas. I hope that this holiday season is truly wonderful for you, and that 2025 is your very best year ever!
We celebrate on Christmas Eve, so it’ll just be Melinda and I today. But we’ve got a big turkey for the oven, and the birds & squirrels outside our window to keep us company. I’d give them a special treat to spoil them, but alas, every day is a special treat for them with the sunflower seeds, peanuts and all the rest from the wild bird store. We read in the Bible about sacrifices of the harvest made by humans long ago, a practice prevalent in the ancient world. I do wonder if feeding the wild things, the birds and critters is not a form of modern sacrifice? Are we worshiping the Gods by caring for their creation?
I did stop by Cooper Dog’s grave, wished him a Merry Christmas. It is surprising to me how the tears still flow. It’s our first Christmas without a stocking filled with treats and toys hung on the fireplace for him.
Melinda and I have everything. I’ve got mountains of stuff, she’s got mountains of stuff, our house has the stuff of three generations, maybe four. So, what to buy each other? This year we decided that we’d buy new bedding for ourselves from Pendleton Woollen Mills. Focusing on one of their fine art blankets. She picked it out, and then got my approval. What do you know, she found one with a cowboy hat as its focus! I was concerned that we might be taking the whole hat fetish a bit too far, but alas, she likes it, and it does match the room well.
My very best to you and yours on this day.
