Have a fabulous event Brother! Right now Ohio is a bit far, but if this is annual I'll surely put it on my bucket list.

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Thank you Brother!

The event has sort of evolved over time. Brothers from a couple of different Lodges came up with the concept of an outdoor FC Degree at night quite a few years ago now, and eventually that turned into something hosted by a couple of different Masonic Districts, held every other year.

The BBQ Contest I put together much more recently, this is our third annual.

But due to some ongoing construction, we sort of lost our really nice location for the Degree, so seeing that change was needed if it was going to remain great we looked at combining the two events, and moving them both to our Lodge in the tiny town of Quilcene, because it has both a huge and really private back lawn, perfect for the BBQ Competition, and a really excellent outdoor Lodge Room under the trees.

I think that with this combination of the two events, and the necessary move of the Degree, the future should be assured for a long time.

This sounds so wonderful, I'm sorry I'm on the other side of the pond!

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Thanks!

But yeah, the commute might be a bit far! 😀

I am planning to attend

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Awesome! I really look forward to seeing you again Brother!

Glenn Geiss's avatar

I’m going to be able to attend after all. If you need me to fill a chair, let me know.

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

That's awesome! Thank you Brother!

Charlotte Pendragon's avatar

I’d join just to go to the party, Lol! I hope you all enjoy a beautiful evening under the moon and stars; and it feeds your spiritual souls!

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Thank you Charlotte! It should indeed be a great party, followed by a superb Degree.

Charlotte Pendragon's avatar

That would be a great night for stargazing, if anyone has a telescope! 💫 ✨ 🌙 🪐

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Yes indeed, especially as Quilcene is really rural, so there shouldn't be much light pollution.

Well MW the last two weeks the weather report was rain on the 14th over here BUT I just checked the update and it now says high of 67 and nothing but sunshine and clear sky and I will be checking to see if the same night we can see the International Space Station flying right over us.......and that has happened many times just after the Stated meetings......but then after dark it will be a bit chilly to me anyway.

And I am hoping for no rain so I can drive my classic 55 year old car that I just got out of my garage for the first time in 8 years and I have a mechanic now coming this saturday to check the brakes and I will have to replace 2 of the headlights so I can find my way back home that night......it is a long 10 minute drive each way for me from Port Ludlow 😎

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

W Brother:

That all sounds wonderful! And yes indeed, I checked the weather report this morning, and also saw that we are slated to be dry and sunny! A perfect day on the Olympic Peninsula!

But, I would like to point out that as you are Senior Deacon of that Lodge, we hope that you will do a sun dance just to ensure it!

I look forward to seeing the car!

Bill Thayer's avatar

Might work better if I do my WM dance since my SD dance is not as good as it used to be........and the Mrs will tell you that she never has seen me dance in 38 years 😀

See you there and I am not a morning person so I will try to get there by noon

Sounds great Brother!

Grilling in the Pacific Northwest

Get out your kettle Barbecue, and make sure that you have your briquettes soaked overnight, to assure that the lighter fluid has thoroughly penetrated each briquette. You’ll know if you’ve succeeded when you pull them out and the lighter fluid freely drips from the briquette. Then you stack them on your bottom grill in the barbecue. It’s true that you can’t stack them any higher than the cooking grill surface, but you want to get as close as you can. Make a good, sturdy stack of them. Then put the cooking grill on, then toss in the match. Grill time! It’ll be great, even if you’re cooking burgers with no eyebrows.

“Taste the food, not the fuel.” I don’t know who came up with that. Unless you’re cooking with a microwave, or an electric griddle (Borrring) or using one of those parabolic solar dishes that converge the sun’s rays or something like that, you’re burning something to cook your meat. So make sure it counts. Be sure to use the correct type and amount of lighter fluid when you soak your briquettes. It’ll make a difference with the finished product, and your guests will definitely have comments about your cooking prowess afterwards. Remember, you have a reputation to uphold!

Cook some extra for later in the week, so you have lunches when you’re at work. Offer some of it to your co-workers, and should any of them ask you why your face now looks like a department store mannequin, tell them you were involved in a charity fundraiser. By now, they should know you’re a member of a large Fraternity, and while they might view your appearance as strange, they’ll know it was for a good cause. And it was! Those burgers were damn good! You know your guests will be back when you fire up the grill again. And you won’t even have to invite them! They’ll know when you get the grill fired up when they hear it on the fire department scanner.

Might I suggest that instead of lighter fluid, you use a 50/50 mix of Diesel Fuel and 10-30 motor oil? It'll burn a lot longer.

Clayton M. M. La Vigne's avatar

Aha! And to add characteristic to the flavor of the burger, you can use different usages of motor oils, such as 3,000 miles in a Ford F150, or 10,000 miles in a vintage car with 500,000 miles on it. Or oil that came out of an 8N tractor, for a good farmer burger.

And with the diesel, you get the low and slow. Many people prefer that method of grilling and barbecuing. Good point. You don’t get the presentation that you get with that loud “Whooomph” and the associated 30 ft. flame when you touch off the lighter fluid, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices.

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

If you want the 'Whoomph,' might I suggest some super premium from the local Chevron?

Clayton M. M. La Vigne's avatar

Yep, just like the one a few blocks from your house. The 92 Octane with NO ethanol.

We don't want any of our good people to fall off the wagon.

And that "Whoomph" will knock you on your butt. I've experienced it first hand.

Bill Thayer's avatar

And lets hope for that starry night since the International Space station will be flying right over us that night (and tonight) and I will have the exact time for saturday

Clayton M. M. La Vigne's avatar

Unfortunately, I'm getting a little discouraged by the weather forecast. Hopefully we don't have to do it in Quilcene-Jefferson's Lodge room, although their room is pretty good-sized.

Bill Thayer's avatar

Yes they are saying rain on friday the 13th and rain starting around 1pm on saturday but the dining room is also big and also have some of the outdoor cooking area under the roof......and the kitchen

Looks like I was lucky to take my Cutlass on its first drive to the Stated at #6 last night since she won't be driving in the rain and I might just put her back in the garage so I don't have to deal with that on friday

Clayton M. M. La Vigne's avatar

Which stinks, because I won't be able to get that rare chance to see it in person! But that's how it goes. It's a crapshoot in September.

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Let us not worry about rain VW.

Clearly you don't watch enough Youtube, if you did you would realize that the Freemasons, in conjunction with the Rothschild family control the weather!

Bailey say... No rain!

Clayton M. M. La Vigne's avatar

We'll see...

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Don't worry, if I'm wrong and nature demands a sacrifice for us to have sun, we'll have the Assistant Grand Secretary available.

Justin Parrish's avatar

Crystal Lodge will be representing MW. We are locked, stocked, and ready to rock! 🤘

Cameron M. Bailey's avatar

Excellent! It'll be great to have some new competition this year! I really look forward to seeing you guys!
