We are expecting fourteen Masons to travel to Virginia this week, to join others from around the world for a number of events. The Conference of Grand Masters of North America will be meeting, as will the Western Conference of Grand Masters. The Cornerstone of the George Washington Masonic Memorial will be re-laid. And finally, the Commission on Information for Recognition will meet.
As for my role in all of this, I will be working as a member of the Commission for Recognition, a post I was elected to last year, I’ve been asked to say a few words at the Western Conference, and I’ll be attending the Cornerstone ceremony.
For the first time in a few years I’ll just be along for the ride at the larger Conference, watching as our current elected Grand Lodge Officers represent the Craft. It will be great to see MW Ed sitting at the big table, but in all honesty he sat there last year as well, filling in for me while I took my post with the Commission for Recognition.
This year, since I will have more available time than in past years, I’ve decided to bring the Conference to you. While we are in Virginia, I will post all I can about what I see and learn there. We will take a break from the regular kinds of posts here on Emeth, so that I can fill you in on what happens when all the Grand Masters of North America get together. I’ll do my best to let you know what goes on in this organization that has had such a very long existence.
I hope that you find the posts while I’m there to be of interest.
Perhaps the most important part of the Conference, in my mind, is the sharing of ideas. Thing that have been tried in other Jurisdictions and found to work. We can, and through the years we have brought these things home to our own Jurisdiction. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some ideas from the Conference that we can all use to improve our Lodges.
Stay tuned for updates as they come from the Conference of Grand Masters of North America.
Next year the Conference comes to Seattle. It will be nice to not have to travel in the middle of winter!
If you are a Washington Mason, MW Jim Mendoza and the elected Grand Lodge Officers would surely like to have your help during that Conference as we work to welcome our visitors from around the world.
If you are a Doric Mason, we will be hosting a small event for the Commission for Information on Recognition. I hope that you will be able to join in as we thank this small handful of men for the work they do year in and year out.
Safe travels! Looking forward to the news from the conference
This is fantastic! I am excited to read about the events at the conference, especially the cornerstone laying. Thanks!
