We often say that one of the great benefits of Freemasonry is the ability to instantly find friends, anywhere in the world. No other organized group offers this kind of Brotherhood, across all cultures and climates.
This becomes increasingly important to individuals as travel grows ever more affordable, and people become increasingly willing to relocate across the country or around the world.
It is a benefit that we should certainly discuss when talking with those who inquire about Freemasonry.
This was demonstrated to me once again this afternoon. When returning to our hotel from the Cigar Bar near the White House, I managed to get separated from the rest of the Washington guys.
No worries!
I spotted some Masons in the lobby bar, so wandered up to their table and asked if I could join them. They are a great group of Brothers from Baja, Mexico. We talked for a long time, and I learned that one of the Brothers is the owner of a Tequila distillery in Jalisco. Given my love of Tequila, a superb friend to have!
Soon we were joined by a Past Grand Master of Florida, then came a couple fellows from the Grotto, and eventually a Brother from Paraguay.
We enjoyed the afternoon just talking.
We started at that table, strangers to each other, and left friends.
That is a tremendous power of Freemasonry. Something we should not take for granted, or ever forget.
