Yesterday afternoon I traveled with two Brothers of my Lodge up to Seattle for this year’s Esotericism In Freemasonry Conference. I find that events like these are some of the most enjoyable things within our Craft, so thought that I might spend this weekend reporting on what we are experiencing here.
We arrived at our hotel, and one of the fellows I’m with quickly remarked that it looked a lot better online. Alas, it's mighty rough, but we will survive. Our luck held when we were wandering the streets looking for a restaurant. I led the group into what must be the absolute weirdest and worst bar I’ve ever been in. I looked at the menu, decided that I might just skip dinner. One of the other fellows was brave, he ordered food. He should have skipped it too.
Word is that I don’t get to chose restaurants for the remainder of our trip. Probably wise.
Then we were off to the first event of the Conference. An extensive guided meditation session. That was quite superb. An extremely relaxing way to begin our weekend of learning, and a great way to focus our attention on what is to come.
It was also wonderful, as it always is to see old friends again, and meet new ones. I had an opportunity to meet one of our Emeth readers who I’ve spent some time talking with on the phone, and interacting with online, so it was wonderful to finally have the chance to shake his hand. I also got to participate in a fascinating conversation about Continental Freemasonry with a Freemason from Washington DC who is a member of a Belgian Grand Lodge, and a well known Masonic author from the American Southwest.
Today is the first actual day of the conference. I’ll do my best to report back about whatever interesting things I discover.
Enjoy your special time there. I for one am looking forward to your reporting on the event
Admittedly, I live in darkness under a rock.
