In Flanders fields, the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

MWPGM Bailey,

Thanks for what you posted about Military Veterans. At the start of each meeting of my Webster Masonic Lodge No. 538 near Rochester, we satuted iur US Flag, as well as a Canadian Flag. Our sister Lodge was in Hamilton, Ontario Province, Canada.

As you know, our Standard Work here in Washington has suggested prayers for Opening and Closing the Lodge. Most Lodges use them word for word, like the rest of the ritual, but not all.

Chehalis Lodge had its own standard versions of these prayers, used every time, asking for protection for those on active duty, and comfort for all who have served. It was a very nice variation from the norm.

The farther the three-plus decades I served retreat behind me, the more gratitude I feel to the citizens of the nation for entrusting me to play my minute role in the defense of this nation. I am indebted to the nation, for it shaped me as much as the Craft has shaped me over the past two decades.

MW Brother, thank you for your recognition and support of those who have served. It is important that we do not lose sight of the tenets that our nation was founded upon to ensure that those who have stood and will stand to support it can do so with confidence that their sacrifices do not go in vain.
